The Story

The Symphony of Australia comprises six movements:

1) ‘Dreamtime’, a symphonic poem depicting the journey of the Rainbow Serpent and the creation of the land in the time of the Dreaming;

2) ‘The Ships’, tracing the journey of the First Fleet and its arrival in Port Jackson;

3) ‘The Red Centre’, the story of Burke and Wills and their ill-fated transcontinental journey;

4) ‘Pie Jesu’, a lament for all Australians who have paid the ultimate price to defend their nation in times of war;

5) ‘Immigration Scherzo’, a celebration of our multicultural society; and

6) ‘My Country Australia’, an orchestral and choral celebration of our nation.

The world premiere of Symphony of Australia took place on 27 November 2007 at the Sydney Opera House, played by the Sydney Symphony and attended by a sell-out crowd of 2,400.
